no start after cam need advice
Hi
I have a 1988 gta 5.0 5 speed.
I just put a crazy cam in it and lined up the notches on the balancer plate and the pully...
now my first attempt and the dist plugs I thought was perfect....
I scratched up a line on the firewall.....1 pm pos...
now.
did not even fire...
so I took off the cap and the rotor was sitting 630 pm not 1 so it was 180 out and I had the same marks again line up
Now me and the gf just took off my valve cover and we even put a rope in the cylinder to see it go down and up....
both full turns of crank pully give me a 630 and a 1pm diff 180 out
how on earth am I supposed to know which way it goes
please help me

Watch the #1 valves as you turn the engine slowly by hand.
Observe the intake (2nd valve back). Watch it open fully, then close fully.
Continue to turn the engine. The next time the timing mark comes almost up, let's say to the very leading edge of the timing tab, the dist rotor should be pointing at the #1 plug wire. (front most one, just to the driver's side of center) If it's not, the dist position is out. Pull it out, turn it the way it's supposed to sit (the 4-wire harness straight toward the firewall), turn the shaft to where the rotor points about 15° to the front of straight toward the driver's side, and drop it in. The rotor will turn clockwise as it drops in. If it doesn't engage the oil pump rod, you can try having your assistant BUMP the starter while you SLIGHTLY (without disengaging the gears) raise and lower the dist body, until the pump engages.
