Re: 84 Z28 build and lookin for info on 383 stroker.
Been looking at some pulley kits. Anyone use this one or have any recommendations?
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...1-09/overview/
Also, I have a weiand team G water pump that keeps blowing seal on back side of pump. I may try to tap and drill another set of bolts/holes to clamp it tighter or make some sort of rail similar to valve cover hold downs. Anyone ever hear of this problem?
Also, what type of motor mounts you guys running? I have energy everywhere now except motor mounts. Figured now is the time to do them. I know I replaced them when I did the swap back in 00'. So, thoughts on Energy, oem, or solid?
Thanks

I ended up with Proform pulleys. (I think). I wasn't after anything special and I didn't want any bling. Clear anodized aluminium water pump and crankshaft is all I ended up with. Personally, I'd like to get them anodized black but that can wait.
Interesting you should ask about the Weiand water pump. Where mine has been leak free for years and thousands of miles (touch wood), the one on my friends Chevelle gave us fits at the track one afternoon. It was new too. We must have worked over that real seal 2 or 3 times before the sealer finally held up. I'm pretty sure he swapped that one out. I'll check and let you know.
As for the motor mounts, never solid for me. I didn't want the vibration associated with them. I ended up with generic OEM versions. No issues that I've noticed. I have a fairly tight fitting exhaust system and over the years that I've installed it, and reinstalled it many times, there's still no shift in the engine position that might have caused contact with the chassis . I guess that's not bad.
Don't forget that if you want a fresh perspective or opinions on anything, it's often helpful to start a new thread. People don't tend to read more than a couple of pages in so they'll skip over new questions you might have. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
The engine mounts and water pump questions are excellent questions to ask outright in their own threads.

I'm a running stock water pump and stock engine mounts with no problems.

Cool, Thanks for the tips fellas.
Got rings fitted. Man that takes some time. Tomorrow Im going to fit crank and if all is well, maybe get rods on pistons and in block. Waiting on new cam bearings. I will attach a pic of what mine look like. Never seen anything like it. No sighs of wear, on cam, cam spins great. Its like something went wrong with the babbit coating wen they were made and I missed it on assembly.... idk.... take a look and share your thoughts.
Thanks guys.

Okay, Up date, Started the build. I have some minor clearance issues to address with the rods and oil pan rails. I will post pics this weekend when I have more.
ALSO, I will be starting a new thread that involves the build. Thanks to everyone who has helped, shared, even read and followed along. I would really like to have it done this long weekend coming up and at dyno the following.
Again, thanks guys

Sorry, I'm late to your thread.. Have you seen reddawg's build in the Camaro section of Auto Detailing and Appearance? He mentioned a couple pulley kits. I think he went with March as well, but $2K+ kit... I'm almost there myself in my 383 build, but I'm going real cheap.
I know!! 2k is too much for this build for a pulley kit. I'm kicking the dirt around on my next build, just kicking, and am researching blocks. My machinist recommends a Dart Pro series. Not sure I will even spend that much for pulleys for it. lol.
I was reading your thread today. Getting closer! Interested in seeing the final numbers. Engine dyno or what?
Keep an eye out for my new thread. There will be heavy pics and a video of the dyno as well.

This is my first and last engine build, has been on my bucket list for almost 20yrs...
I will have it dyno'd just not sure if it will be engine dyno. I don't feel good about stressing a brand new engine I got over $7K in. Prolly gonna be dyno'd after then engine is in the car and after it's fully tuned.

Big cubes in those Dart small blocks. Good luck!

The engine dyno is probably the best place to stress out a new engine. Little problems are easily corrected and it's a great place to get a baseline tune. Given the chance I'd put my engine on a dyno.
