1991 Camaro RS idled rough, now it cranks but won't start.
Hey guys, so I'm new to this sight and hopefully one of you guys can help me out. So on September 24th, and I bought a 91 RS because the third gens has always been kind of a dream car for me. I had 2 grand saved up for a daily, and thinking this was a beautiful and awesome car, I bought it. Drove it an hour home, and it wasn't at all what they guy promised me. He claimed I could drive it to california and back. Anyway, I'm on the highway, the cars not maintaining a constant rpm, so I call him and he says he already spent my money. Nice. He just tells me it might be the map sensor and I can buy a new one.
So 2 days later, my grandfather recommends I take it to a local mechanic. I took it there, and he kept it for a week. We get it back and he tells us that the fuel injectors are staying open and flooding the engine, so an ECM problem. So I try to start it to drive the mile home. It doesn't start. FML. We get a tow rope and use my Explorer to tow it home.
Now I've tried the flood mode thing with my gas pedal pressed down. It sounded like it wanted to start, but wouldn't. My car ends up smelling like gas. I check the spark plugs and the first one looks like this.
I do the screwdriver in the ignition wire thing and I get a spark. Compression is supposed to be good, according to the mechanic. Whats my next plan of action?

sounds to me like youve got the same problem i had. try taking your injectors out and carefully inspect the lower o rings for ANY damage whatsoever. even the slightest damage on those lower o rings will cause the injectors to dump fuel out like crazy from the second you start your engine. while you have the injectors out, soak them in throttle body cleaner for a few hours and then test them by touching the contacts to a 9 volt battery, DO NOT hold them onto the battery long as it can damage them, just touch them to the battery a few times and listen for the click. if it clicks then theyre fine. i cleaned my throttle body and put in all new gaskets and when i re assembled it i damaged both o rings in the process (its easy to do apparently) and i thought my injectors might be bad but before i got new ones i decided to double check the o rings and that turned out to be the problem. its crazy how much drama 2 damaged lower o rings can cause lol

also, your origional issue of the rpms not being consistant might have been from a dirty throttle body. normal for old cars like ours no biggie. it sounds like your mechanic might have rebuilt it but damaged the lower o rings when putting it back togeather. if this is the case, its a super easy fix and the o rings are cheap so dont freak out

Welcome to the thirdgen community! I recommend filling out your supplemental data so we have a better idea of what we're helping troubleshoot. What engine does your 91 RS have?
Re: 1991 Camaro RS idled rough, now it cranks but won't start.
I don't have much GM V6 experience. Stuck open injectors would suggest to me that either the drivers are stuck on a constant ground, or the pick up coil is sending a constant signal.
Have you ohm tested your injectors? What is your RPM gauge doing when you are cranking? Are the injectors getting a pulsing signal or a constant signal?
There's also a V6 specific forum that you might get more advice in.
