identifying my engine

I am the only owner of my 1987 IROC-Z 305 5.0 TPI! But about 12-15 yrs ago, I had a new engine install, when I ordered it. They told me it's the exact version of stock engine, my friend helping me with the car cant find any markings on engine to verify we are truly working on a 305 5.0 TPI. To me it looks exactly like the original, lol but I'm just learning!!
How can we verify?

Check the block stamping

Then pull a valve cover and check the casting number. That will probably get you close to near where you need to be
