86 Iroc 305 TPI Not starting after being driven
Hey all,
I know there have been MANY similar posts to what I am about to bring up, but I THINK I found out what is wrong, and I just want an opinion before I go spending money on a fix. I am having some troubles re-starting my Camaro after I have been driving it around for a little (20+ minutes).
When started cold, it runs and sounds great, have not had it stall on me while driving after it has started correctly.
On my way to work, or to run some errands, if I stop at a convenience store to pick up cigarettes or food, I come back out, and it just does not want to start, until it has been given time to cool off, usually 45 minutes to an hour.
When attempting to start it up again, it will try and turn over, but only for a brief second before the engine just stalls out.
The more I read threads on this site about similar problems, the more I was thinking it was something to do with the distributor, since the engine bay does heat up a decent amount, and I have had components inside of it basically get destroyed before, but this time, it isn't running oddly or backfiring or anything of that sort.
I asked my friend about it, and he said it could very well be the starter, and that my exhaust pipes coming down from my headers could be too close to my starter, essentially making it useless when I try to restart the car.
He told me to look into buying a mini-starter, and a heat shield, which I am currently looking into.
Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what starter would you suggest I get?
Thanks much!

The description is not quite complete. A little more information will be helpful.
On hot restart, does the engine crank (starter operates) but not fire, or does the starter not even crank the engine?
