New 383 Hot?
Hi Guys,
I'm at a bit of a loss. When I built my new 383 HSR, I bought a replacement temperature sender for the drivers side head. I'm still in the process of tuning but when I start it up, the temp slowly climbs to 240*F! I topped off the anit-freeze, made sure the timing is reasonable, and replaced the thermostat with another 180*. I noticed also that my coolant always seems a bit low but I don't see any dripping nor do I see any smoke out of the exhaust (note - engine hasn't been broken in yet). Took a temp gun and aimed it at the thermostat housing and it showed around 170*F when the gauge showed 200+. Do you think the gauge is bad? Or maybe the sender is wrong somehow?
I'm running out of ideas and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you!
FWIW - I did do a search and read many threads before posting
