Re: Fuel pump relay

The fuel pump relay is paralleled by the oil pressure switch. Since this backup path exists it would be best to monitor the fuel pump voltage to determine whether your suspicions are founded.

Re: Fuel pump relay

Thanks for your reply, I actaully swiched the relay today and the problem continues. It's a 305 engine tbi. It cranks for a while before starting but then it's stays on for a bit and dies, the rpm drops and if I give it gas the vehicle dies right away. I really want to fix this problem and a smell of gasoline is also present. Anything would help point me in the right direction. I've swiched out the following
Water pump
Fuel filter
Fuelpump
Fuel relay
Cts
IAC
TPS
Rebuilt tbi
fuel regulator
New gas tank
Hoses
Vacuum lines
Spark plugs

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Fuel pump relay

I really don't know what is causing your issue. From your explanations looks as if the engine is running real rich. Sounds like the cts is no so that should be good, same with the tps and ruling out leaking injectors.
The map sensor could be faulty ignition coil breaking down (weak spark)
Bad ecm, check engine light maybe on .
I don't believe the iat would make the engine so rich until the engine is warm.
Without having a scanner hooked up to the ecm to see sensor data it's hard to know what your issues is.

This link shows 3 bar map output voltages based on altitude.
The feedback wire is light green at the map.

Re: Fuel pump relay

I forgot to mention i threw on new injectors as well, the car had been sitting for 8 years so I'm sure it's going to have its difficulties. I did have it running for a while but I didn't drive it due to the fact that it wouldn't go pass 10mph or surpass 3000 rpm. Gradually the problem got worse and not the there's long cranking and hard start but it'll turn on then the rpms drop and the car shakes a lot then it turns off
