No Spark Condition

Hi Everyone:

I have a 1989 GTA and haven't use it for a month and last weekend try to start it, wont start.

Have Fuel
Have Air
Don't Have Spark. Not at the Plug not at the Coil Cable going to the rotor

My question is. does my car have any safety sensor that shut the Spark off?

I thought it could be the Neutral Switch But Read that it shut the fuel not the spark

Also thought about the Oil sensor but I think that also cut fuel not spark.

So anybody can tell me what to check next.

Don't have a diagram of the cables going to the coil to check them. Any Help Would be appreciated.

Re: No Spark Condition

Have you verified that the coil isn't bad?

Re: No Spark Condition

Hi Everyone:

An update on the no start situation. I follow the procedure and I had bad pickup coil, Bad Module, Bad Coil, Bad Distributor cap.

when I took the distributor cap the pin that contact the rotor was broke in half. Don't know how that happened.

Since it's not common that all this parts go bad at the same time it is my Hypothesis that when that pin broke the 32K volt went true the electronics and cause the to fail at the same time.

At this point I replace the Pickup coil, the Module, The coil, and put an Old Distributor Cap that I have Before in the car.

Know it does start, but is missing a litter with the computer disconnected. Put the time at 6 degrees Before TDC but when I connect the computer the car misses a lot and die.

I have a New Distributor cap just to be safe and will be putting it on soon. It is my believe that that surge of volt may have damage the computer but will like to diagnose it before I buy a new one. I you know how let me know.

Also was looking in Autozone and they have tow brands. Cardone and Blue Streak The first is warranty for ever and the second just one year. What computer brand would you recommend?

Thanks for your help as usual it is greatly appreciated

Re: No Spark Condition

Napa, and most major automotive stores use primarily "Cardone" and "Standard" for replacement stock parts including electronics. Both very reputable companies.= https://www.cardone.com/about-us/history and Standard = http://www.standardbrand.com/en/

AutoZone uses "Wells" and "Standard" for there stock replacement electronic components. "Wells" is also a very reputable company= http://www.wellsve.com/history.html

I had a no spark situation similar to yours. My coil was under warranty with O'Reillys Auto Parts so I just swapped it out wilth a "Accel Super Coil" and after researching stock replacements I went with this. = "Duralast Gold" Distributor made by "Standard" . I purchased to replace the 28 year old one.= http://www.autozone.com/external-eng...hText=BDLGGM04

I rented the oil pump adjustment/priming tool, Made the necessary marks on the old one, transferred to the new one, and the installation went like clock work.
All I needed to do was reset the timing with my digital gun making sure the minimum idle speed was with in acceptable range and done.

Car runs like a champ. Again.

Here's a nice little tool to have.
