SO SLOW
SO SLOW
I have a v6 automatic 89 rs camaro and it is SO SLOW. I have put new calibers on the front and brake line hoses and new brake pads. Gave it a tuneup. Changed oil and transmission fluid. New fuel filter. It has absolutely no powe whatsoever. I start to drive and it acts like it doesnt have the power to move and Its rpm goes all the way up in the red. I don't understand whats wrong with it. If I can't figure it out im just gonna sell it. Can anyone please give me some help??

Re: SO SLOW
My dad works on cars a lot and I got him to drive it and he says the transmission is fine, checked the fluid, not burnt, he's not even sure what's wrong with it

Re: SO SLOW
First off, the "tach" in these cars fails, ALOT. Mostly it fails by reading just STOOOOOPID high.
Don't believe it. I have one running around somewhere, unless I've thrown it away which is highly probable, that read 3 times the actual engine RPM. It's a problem with the way the factory built the driver circuit on the little PCB on the back of the meter movement. It's beyond mere crappy.
The "no power" complaint however, I find extremely eeeeeezy to believe. The V8s that came in these cars were anemic enough, by modern standards; but the 6-cyls are utterly laughable compared to today's cars.
On the other hand, a 6-cyl car is usually pretty cheeeeeeeep, and hasn't been beat on so much, comparatively speaking. Plus those often come with somewhat decent gears. Might be a good candidate for a 5.3/4L60E pullout to just drop into it.
Enjoy its looks and whatever other desirable features it has, and save up your money for an engine swap.

Re: SO SLOW
It seems slow because honestly it is. Especially compared to anything going up and down the road today. Back in the 80s almost everything was SLOW.Cat-converter may be stopped up though I have ran into that on numerous occasions it wouldn't hurt to replace it "if you have to worry about emissions" or cut it off and see what happens.
