How did you get the last screw out of the cover in front of the heater core?

I can't do it. I have no idea what to do and I'm defeated. The last upper screw on the is impossible to for me to get out. I can see it barely and I can touch it with my fingers but I can't get a ratchet on it. I've tried half a dozen different ways to get to it but I can't. The dash pad is off, the speaker and the ecu are out of the way, the dash is loosened and gives me a few more inches of clearance. I've tried from the top and underneath but I don't know anymore.

Please can someone very specifically tell me how to get to this screw without completely taking the dash out? Tools used, angle of attack, just any little detail that can make me understand how to get that screw out. This car is going to be the death of me. I know it.

If you can touch it, and see it, you can remove it.

Get a 1/4" drive ratchet, a couple extensions, and a 7mm socket. Slide your socket and extension across the top of the box with the ratchet hanging off the edge. When you get the socket close, listen and feel for the click when you hit the screw. Fiddle until it pops on the screw and crank it out.

If you have a Firebird, pop the lower trim panel off the dash and there's a slot you can go thru to get the last screw with a long extension.

Drew covered it. It's not easy but can be done. Since the dash pad is removed that upper screw should be a lot easier.

My brother who is the less mechanically-inclined individual between us somehow did it and I'm still not sure how. Also, I would not replacing a heater core in below freezing weather but it's done now. Thanks for the advice anyway!

You are not trying to get at the stud that goes through the firewall right?
