Odd SBC Suffix Code
All;
I've always been aware that the original L98 in my '88 IROC was long gone, and had been replaced at some time over the past nearly 30 years.
Not long ago, I had the alternator off of the car, and made a note of the suffix code stamped on the pad of the block, behind the alternator, and in front of the passenger's side head.
The casting marks near the bellhousing indicate the engine to be a 350, but something's not right about the suffix code on the block---it doesn't seem to exist in any database of codes I've found anywhere.
The code is:
VD221954
No other numbers/characters appear on the pad, and the stamping is very clear for the numbers I do see.
Anyone have an idea what engine I actually have in the car?

Re: Odd SBC Suffix Code
hmmm,...that is odd.
can you post the casting number behind the china wall?
i'm guessing it's along the line of a replacement vortec block by 2 letters at the beginning? perhaps some kind of fleet vehicle?
hopefully somebody with more knowledge can solve this for you.

Re: Odd SBC Suffix Code
Probably an aftermarket rebuild with the company's own specific code. If the block was ever decked, the original numbers will have been machined off.
It's not original any more so the original suffix code means nothing.
