200+ HP Help
200+ HP Help
I am starting a new post with a new question. I bought a 1990 L05 thinking it was the police package. It actually came from a Caprice wagon. It has the smaller cam and 193 heads. It is a decent option for my vehicle. I don't have a Third gen but rather a Toyota FJ40 wheeler. I started here for help with a TBI conversion because I learned the peeps here have the best overall knowledge compared to other forums I have visited
here is is what I am trying to achieve. I am now running an '83 305 with a Summit K1102 cam and performer intake. It should be somewhere around 160hp. Now that I moved up to 36" tires it can't hold freeway speed in OD with my 4L60.
My goal with the L05 is 200 to 220 HP and as much low end torque as I can get. I think the 193 heads I have should be great for that. Knowing what I have what do you all recommend for this small boost from 175hp? It has a roller cam by the way. I don't have any experience with porting but I can give it a shot if it would benefit a low cost solution. I plan to do the TBI mods over in the FI section.
Thanks for for your suggestions especially if they are low buck.

Re: 200+ HP Help
i saw your other post about rings. one thing that popped into my mind was, if it was my motor, and i already had it that far apart, i'd at least run some flat-top 4 valve relief pistons to gain compression.

Headers, good y-pipe, cam somewhere in 214-220 range not too much over 450 lift, good 3in exhaust. 250HP range and great torque.
