Looking for an Engine Number Decode
Does anyone have a link to a website that has a decent "newer" engine decoder?
I have a 5.7L block with a roller cam, one piece rear seal that is stamped
V0503CMA. I bought it for next to nothing, it was supposed to have come out of a 1991 9C1 Caprice Cop car... It has the expected external oil cooler, correct TBI injectors and 9C1 ECM..
But two surprises:
1) You would expect a cop motor (going into at least its third engine bay) to show a far bit of wear, but it is like new inside...all stock guts, virgin bores, with a light hatch renaming (that was the good surprise)
2) The disappointment... Two bolt mains
I though that all "newer" cop 350's were 4 bolts...
Anyone know where I can look up the engine number for "late" 350?
Most Chevy Engine Suffix lookups say that a CMA is a 1974 2bbl 350... It definitely isn't one of those.

Re: Looking for an Engine Number Decode
It is the good old generic TBI block casting 14093638
Of course thanks to GM using that block in just about everything... That doesn't help much. The 14093638 was used in both flat tappet and rollers and in 2 bolt and 4 bolt mains...
The casting number does confirm that GM reused the CMA suffix.
