Rhino Ramps?

Hey guys...so two questions, got an 87 IROC, not lowered or anything...question, anyone had any experiences pulling these up on Rhino Ramps and if they scrape? Also anyone had any experiences putting some wood planks down...like 2*12s and just driving up on them? Some places I read said you really don't have to screw them in or anything just ride up on them...personally me, I'll probably pull the car out on some concrete or in the yard somewhere so they don't slip around...garage is too tight to do a lot of work lol. Got too much crap in there!

Re: Rhino Ramps?

I don't have them, but was looking into getting them a year ago. What I read is that you must use them on a level solid, ground (like concrete). If not they can crack easily.

The 2x12's if you google homemade car ramp or DYI car ramp from wood. You should come across something similar.

Even though I am getting older, I still don't quite hate my face. So, anything that could crack and send a car onto it, is not something I really want.

Re: Rhino Ramps?

I have some, but I still make sure to use every safety I have. I have never had all 4 tires off the ground with them. Its really sketchy when you drive up on them. Not a bad tool to have though.

Re: Rhino Ramps?

I have some. Clearance to get the car to the ramp was not an issue. Having the ramp scoot away before the car could get up on it was.

This was my attempt to address that. Completed, but not yet tested.

Re: Rhino Ramps?

No cracking on my 4 year old Rhino's. Had all sorts of vehicles on them from my IROC, small imports, smaller SUV's and crossovers. They can "scoot" if part of the car touches them before the tire rides up but then I always push them up to the tire before riding up but not as often when on concrete. Smooth asphalt can make the scoot worse.

If a car is too low, You can put a 2x12 with beveled edges front and rear to match the ramp and ease the tires initial ride up onto the board.

Even so, I always chock the wheels and add jackstands for extra safety.
Having a spotter while I ride up whenever I can.

You can never be too careful !

Re: Rhino Ramps?

I have them, they scooted away on me everytime I tried to use them on a smooth garage floor. (Cold floor) - solved it by purchasing a floor rug that has a rubber backing on it. I laid the ramps on the rug (like a commercial rug with rubber edges, rubber backing) cut the rug in half - have not had any issues since then. I think the rug cost something like $15 at the local Home Depot store.
