Electric cutouts - 84 bird

I am thinking of putting an electric cutout on an 84 bird 5.7 (405hp, 423 tq) 411 rear gears - 700r4. I see they are available with remote control or switch. Any luck with these or are they a waste of time and effort. If you have had success (no leaks, they actually function) where is the best place to install?
Thanks in advance - byron

What is your exhaust setup? I installed a QTP 3" in my 3" Magnaflow catback right under the rear seat. Also important to know is what you want out of them; are you just looking to make it louder or are you looking for reducing exhaust restriction? As far as "leak free" that may be hard to accomplish. I've only tried QTP, so I can't speak to other brands, but pressurizing the exhaust with the blow side of a shop vac I can feel a decent amount of air getting out around the butterfly when closed. I plan to take a better look at this in the future to see if I can come up with a better way to seal the butterfly.

The QTP comes with a rather hefty switch, but I rigged up a custom controller board which is triggered off the foglight switch instead. Makes it so I don't have to sit there holding a switch until it's open/closed.

Re: Electric cutouts - 84 bird

Someone972, after racing for a long time, the motor does not feel right. Feels like it is choked off. I am just finishing up the rear end upgraded gears. The converter is tight - might be too tight to allow the engine into the power band. Using 411 gears - should wake it up a bit. My plan is to open up the shorty headers to see what the difference is - then decide on the cut-outs. The other option is to take it to a Dyno shop and see the difference. I am concerned about the noise/past exhaust on the cut out. Thanks for your response - byron
