RPC tall center bolt valve covers hit rockers?

RPC tall center bolt valve covers hit rockers?
Hey all,
I am tweaking my new build, vortec (062's) 350 with comp XR276HR. I have RPC center bolt tall valve covers and the tunnel in the cast for the bolt hits the factory rocker on cyl #1 exhaust, they hit in two other places as well but I was able to take away some material with a die grinder. Any reason why i shouldnt take away too much material from the "bolt tunnel" ? I tried switching the covers and the other one hits on the same spot!
Also, it seems to tap intermittently when warm/hot. I open the hood on the side of the highway and it will tap 6 or 7 times in a row, stop for 10 seconds, repeat. It taps constantly when cold and gets quieter when it warms up idling, but it's still there.
I am running factory rockers from a 96' vortec 350, same truck i got all of the dog bones and spider keeper from. Block is an 87' roller.
whats the deal? anyone had this happen before? If you need more info let me know, the tapping is driving me nuts!!

I have not personally had your problem, but I do know that there are narrow body rocker arms for Vortec heads. You might need them.
