Re: Ignition cylinder stuck

You have to remove the steering wheel, the lockplate and the turn signal switch to gain access to the screw holding it in. Can get tools to remove those parts at the auto part store (steering wheel puller and lock plate remover)
You'll need a small pick or screwdriver to get a lock ring out of it's groove also.
Helpful if you have some kind of manual for your car
Not hard, just takes a little work. Be careful when removing or replacing any screws. You don't want to be dropping them in the column or you'll create lots more work

Re: Ignition cylinder stuck

As mentioned, you will need this.
Don't even mess with it without this tool.

The snap-ring is under a lot of pressure and getting it out is a nightmare without it.
Getting it back in is no pick-nick ether.

You should be able to rent it at a chain auto parts store.
Just give them some cash or card and you get it all back when you return the tool.

+1 on this, i didnt have one or access to one.

that snap ring drove me insane for about 3 hours. having a friend holding the main shaft with a really tight set of lockjaws (vicegrips) and pulling outwards while you try and replace the ring can make it easier.

No it won't, this is terrible advice and doesnt even make sense. The spring is compressed against the shaft you're pulling on. Pulling it does nothing unless you're strong enough to stretch the upper steering shaft itself.

It's been nearly a year man. At some point you just get another column, or seek the help of an expert.
