Light Actuator Issue (Reset start and stop position)
Light Actuator Issue (Reset start and stop position)
All,
My apologies if this is in the wrong thread. I have searched a bit and cannot find someone with this same issue.
I have an 87 GTA which I probably took out twice last year due to a busy schedule. As such, I let the battery die, so the car has been sitting with no power for close to a year.
I replaced my battery but now while my lights will flip down they will not flip up, unless I manually turn them all the way or about half way and use the light switch.
The actuators seem to bring the lights further down thn they should, so when you push the button up the actuators try to spin but they wont because they are too far down.
To me its almost like I need to teach the car where the start and stop position is.
I know it is not the typical problem where the insides of the actuators broke as I replaced them last year and have checked them this year. I have also opened up the control module and it looks fine, I know some stated it may need resoldering.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Light Actuator Issue (Reset start and stop position)
Try another module before ripping into anything. Because it's always going to be the module... Except when it's not.
Re: Light Actuator Issue (Reset start and stop position)
All the motors do on the later style is run forward or backwards. All of the sensing of voltage, or amperage, stops, starts, up/down, etc is all processed by the relay module. Assuming the gears aren't stripped, and the plastic pellets inside the gear aren't mulched, it's probably going to be a module problem.
The module has a lot to deal with... There are mechanical relays and electrical components that can all fail. It's kind of a planned obsolescence box. It's a good idea to have a spare.

Manually test each actuator separately. Reverse polararety for other mode. In my years with Pontiac it was rare to be the module. Stripped gears most common.

All,
Thank you for the replies. I have confirmed it is not the gears and have replaced the module. Oddly enough there is a different problem now.
Given it's a used module i understand it could be busted but I'm not sure.
The new module is doing the following. Unlike the old one it will not even attempt to go up, pushing the lights down work just fine but if you attempt to flip them open it's still trying to turn the lights in the wrong way and it won't stop.
Anything else i can try before i buy another module?
