Any suggestions on how to give my car some of its oomph back?
Any suggestions on how to give my car some of its oomph back?
1987 2.8 6cyl. First I know it's only a 2.8 6 cyl but I feel like it doesn't have the get up and go that it should. Any suggestions on how I could get it up to speed with out spending thousands onafter market stuff?

Strap rockets to it? Load it into a catapult? Giant magnet mounted to front bumper - tail faster car. Giant rubber band, think sling shot. j/k
Has it ever felt better? Because an anemic V6 in a 3400lb car isn't going to have much get up and go. It's not quite hold the gas to the floor and bust out your sun dial to measure the blistering performance, but a 2.8L isn't remotely as peppy as any V6 built in the last 20 years. An early 90's 3.3L powered Dodge Caravan will lay an ***-whoopin' on a 2.8L thirdgen.
It's hard enough to get more performance out of a V8. Strongly suggest proceeding with caution.

Cap and rotor will do wonders if they have been changed in awhile. Fuel filter usually makes a noticeable difference too

Really, it probably has all it is going to get. The 2.8/3.1 are great motors for daily driving. They are reliable and easy to maintain, but not powerful at all.
Even doing cam/heads won't help much there just isn't a lot to work with.
If you are really set on keeping the 2.8 I would look into the V6 subform, a few of us have turbocharged our cars and had good results. Worth a look!
