Starting issues
Starting issues
Brand new Camaro owner and forum member.
I have recently purchased an 89 RS (convertible if that matters) and I am running into an issue where it won't start after driving for a bit. Short drives don't create a problem. It will start fine in the morning, I'll drive to work, turn it off. here is the issue...Sometimes the car will start when I try to start it just after I turn it off, sometimes it won't. Sometimes a couple hours later (going to lunch) it won't start. there have been a few times when it wouldn't start, turning the key really slowly has worked but most of the time that doesn't work. The problem is so intermittent that my local garages haven't been able to find the problem.
I have a brand new battery.
Ignition switch has been replaced (had a problem with the resistor on the key)
Windows, headlights, locks all work when the car won't start. There is no noise at all from the engine, the security light is off. Sometimes the check engine light is on, sometimes not.
Any Ideas??

Re: Starting issues
What engine does your car have? Nothing happens when you turn the key, not even cranking? If so it sounds like you have an issue with your ignition replacement or VATS. How exactly did you bypass/did you bypass VATS?
Re: Starting issues
It has the TBI 305 I believe, V8 automatic carb. When I first had problems with the ignition I was able use resistors from radio shack to match the resistor on the key, and connected them to the plastic connector coming from the steering column. That worked fine till I had the ignition and the key replaced. Had no problems starting the car for about 6 months before the current issue started up.
I double checked for sounds when turning the key and there is a click from the temp gauge, and a second faint sound from the area near my left foot.
