LT1 power steering pump

Has anyone tried this pump? The guy I talked to at Jegs said it should work but I'm unsure with using it on the LT1 with remote res.
Thank you in advance.

Re: LT1 power steering pump

It can be made to work with a few new parts. I don't have access at this moment to the part numbers or manufacturers of pieces I used it I'll get them to you. In short it took a different bracket ($32), a different pulley (do you have serpentine belts or the v-belt/rib-belt setup?), some AN-6 adapters for the box and pump, a remote reservoir and a custom pressure hose (only $38 locally). To mount the reservoir I made the bracket out of 3/16" plate bolted to the driver's side head. I'd love to get pictures of the setup but I pulled the engine and trans last weekend getting ready for the replacement.

Wait, do you have an LT1 in the car or are you adapting this to a gen1 block?

Re: LT1 power steering pump

I do have a serpentine belt. I have a remote reservoir mounted on the wheel well. I saw that someone did it by mounting the pump on the drivers side but I don't think I have the room with all the piping and stuff for the turbo/ intercooler.

Re: LT1 power steering pump

If you've already got a reservoir mounted then don't worry about it. If you don't already have type ll ps pump on the car or are converting from the old Saginaw pump you'll need a bracket like the PSC MB05K one, cheap, well made and strong. That pump you're looking at already has a -6 AN outlet so you'll need a little hose barb fitting for a -10AN to hook the suction line to the reservoir. The pulley you'll have to research. I have the weird v-belt combo setup on my car so I'm using a v-belt pulley (can't help you on belt length either) but I do know the pump shaft is 0.66" and press-fit. For anyone who finds this info in a search using a v-belt like myself, with the stock crank pulley you'll need a gates XL 7355 belt or approx 36" long with a 6" pulley. Using the stock steering gearbox still? You'll need an adapter to hook up to the pressure line. The place that made my pressure line didn't have any of the metric o-ring fittings so had to go -6AN on both ends. I got mine from Speedwaymotors so that's the only part number I can give you (pn:6174808). It's a 18mm-1.5 IFM/-6AN adapter if that helps. That's all think I can help you with. Try it out and if the steering is too light you may need to switch to a 2gpm outlet restrictor like the afco 37130. Now I think that's everything I know.
