HELP new engine wont start

So i just did an engine swap. I swapped out the tpi engine and I dropped in a 500hp 383 stroker carbureted engine. When i go to start it it turns over but not fast enough to start it and after a few min of trying to start it the starter is very hot. Heres how i wired the car i took out ecm and wire harnness. I hooked up orange power cables back up to the starter i hooked up oil pressure sender right above oil filter oil pressure gage works. For guel pump i hooked up a holley fpr and i ran the green wire with white strip and spliced into the power wire that runs to distributor so when i turn the key i can here the fuel pump turn on. I put in brandnew positive and negative cables brand new starter powermaster 9600 mini. New battery 550cca 800ca it about 8 months old i changed all the ground straps i tried running jumper cables from starter to the ground turminal on the battery to give it a better ground maybe still the same. Did a volt drop test on starter and battery and im only getting 7-8 volts starter needs 9.6 to run not sure why. Im also getting spark and fuel just doesnt want to turn over fast enough to start and i really want to try this engine out this year ive been messing with this problem a few weeks now and im running out of ideas

You didn't mention timing - what do you have it set at? Having the timing too far advanced will cause the engine to turn over slowly.

What carburetor are you using? If you pump the gas do you get a shot of fuel from the booster? If not, are the bowls filling?

It almost sounds like you have your fuel pump up near the engine compartment... If that's the case, you need to move it back by the fuel tank. Electric fuel pumps are pushers, not pullers. You will not get adequate fuel if it's trying to pull instead of push. If it was an in tank pump, I could've sworn the wires were purple, gray, and black.

At any rate, my first thought was timing. Maybe double check that.

Re: HELP new engine wont start

I havent checked the timing yet just for the fact that the engine came off the dyno and everything was tuned so i didnt want to move the distributor. I guess i could pull the distributor wire and see if it turn over better. As for the fuel i have the stock fuel pump in the tank with the holley fpr in the engine bay and then the line running to the carb. Its a quick fuel 750 slayer carb and the bowls have fuel half way up the primary window secondarys are vacuum secondarys so its completly full till i get the car started then ill see where the level is at. It sprays fuel when i give it gas its just not turning over very fast even with new starter cables and battery and ground straps.

Ya the wires your talking about are at the back of the car i spliced into the fuel relay on the fire wall and hooked the green and white wire to the power wire for the distributor to activate the relay when key is on to send power to pump witch i can hear and pressure is set at 6.5psi like the manufacturer recomends
