Running Rough/Won't Accel
Running Rough/Won't Accel
I have a 1988 IROC with a 305 TPI 5 speed. I am having problems with the car idling and accelerating. I have to put the accelerator pedal to the floor in order to start the car. When the car finally starts, the car wants to die. I press the accelerator pedal to the floor and after a few seconds it will rev up to 2000-2500 RPM. If I try to put the car into first gear, I have to hold my foot to the floor in order for the car to move an inch when I release the clutch. I thought it was the fuel pump or regulator but those check out to be good. The car was tuned up within the last 2,000 miles. The cap and rotor look good. I tested the TPS sensor, idle at .54, rises to 4.50 at WOT
Do you have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Re: Running Rough/Won't Accel
I'd go about doing the following:
- Disconnect EST connector(!), check timing
- Check throttle position sensor values
- Check temperature sensor values
- Check for blockage from air filter to throttle body
- Make sure crankcase valve (PCV) isn't clogged and operates freely.
- Unusual gas smell?
- Any rattling in the cat converter?
- Resistance of the injector coils
Best thing would be to get a laptop with TunerPro connected to your ECM and look what's happening in there.
