Suggestions for a good street l98 build please!

Ok so my l98 is in the machine shop, my goal is a good street l98 with better performance then stock and retain decent fuel mileage.
I am thinking vortec heads and a lt4 hot cam or comp cam xfi 268? I'll be keeping the TPI system mini ram would be nice but I don't have tons of money to work with so it's kinda a budget build , umm 300 to 350 horsepower would be sufficient for a somewhat daily driver, I am guessing I would need to upgrade to 24lb injectors for that type of set up?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be fantastic, thanks!

This is what I have on mine...
Idles nice and lots of bottom end torque. The block only had 45K on it so it's still stock bore...
Pocket ported Vette 113 heads with updated springs. I did have to drill and tap a hole on the front of the passenger side head for the belt drive setup (be careful you con only go about 1/2" deep or you break into the water jacket).
Comp cams 260XFI HR13 cam installed straight up.
1.6 ratio narrow body roller rockers
Bosch 3 27Lbs injectors from South Bay
Adjustable FRP
EBL P4 ECU
Also ported the stock base and plenum and gasket matched the stock runners (I too am on a budget).
Have not put it on a dyno yet but with 3:45's and a 700R4 with a stock converter it's well mannered on the street and the power band is strongest from about 2500 to 4500 RPM

I did a cam only L98 that did 226/309 whp/wtq. Was fun. Was fun but expected more. Cam was around 218/224.
Tpi needs upgraded with either large runners and base or different intake

Did a afr 180 hot cam tpis big mouth big runner setup that did 272/350 but was suffering blowby so likely a weak ring seal. Was expecting 300/370 or so. Was a blast tho. Easy to tune. Ran well

Can't put Vortec heads under TPI without buying the $$$$$$ base $$$$$. And even then, a decent carbed 305 will clean up the pavement with your face. Then sterilize it with your genitalia.

Get rid of the TPI. Holley Stealth Ram or TPIS MiniRam are the way to go with Vortecs.

I'm having trouble reading your profile over there under your userID. Where do you live? Certain locations will dictate what choices you have.

A modified carbed 305 may due as you say, but also get 10 mpg. I am looking at building a healthy 350 that retains fuel injection, so a little more power then stock and still gets decent mpg. That is what I am looking to achieve. My 305 tbi is a 3 legged dog in my RS I know swapping even to a stock L98 would be like day and night diffrence.

I DIDN'T SAY "put a carbed 305 in your car"; what I DID SAY was, a decent 305 (nowhere near "max effort", even, just "decent") will ANIHILATE a TPI 350.

Kinda takes all the fun out of this hobby when you spend $$$$1000s and some POS no-$$$$ 305 walks you like a 3-legged dog.

TPI is the weakness. Not 350, not EFI. The problem is TPI.

Vortec heads on a L98 aren't the answer. The cost is OUTRAGEOUS for the benefit they provide, when you put them UNDER A TPI INTAKE. TPI voids all the advantages of Vortec heads.

There are other EFI intakes you can put on an otherwise mostly stock L98, or with Vortec heads even, that will BLOW TPI AWAY, for less cost than keeping it and buying the $$$$adapter$$$$$ parts.

Consider the Holley Stealth Ram. Comes in a Vortec version, costs FAR less than adapting TPI to Vortec heads, will produce probably 50 HP more than TPI with all else the same (including gas mileage), and maybe as much as 100 HP more than TPI if properly maximized.
