Are AFR Vortec 190's worth the upgrade?

As the title suggests I am looking for anyone with real world experience with these over stock vortec heads. I have done alot of searching and have not come up with any dyno comparisons or reviews anywhere. I have noted that they are fairly new on the market however.

I am working with my eagle 383 stroker with, stocked unworked vortec heads, a Lunatti 103 Voodoo Cam, edelbrock TES headers and 3 inch exhaust. I have an edelbrock rpm air gap and will be moving to a holley 3310-2 carb in the spring.

I am considering the head upgrade, but want to know what sort of difference I can expect before I spend $2k on a set of heads.

I am in the process of doing the T56 swap as well, and want to get it all done at once.

Is it worth the upgrade, yes or no, opinions please, experience even better!

It will make more power. How much? Hard to say but i would expect 20-30 easily. Now is that worth it? Thats for you to decide.

I havent used them specifically but i have used the old school 190's, the new 180's and 195's, and seen trickflow 195 lt1 heads do work on a lt1 car. They do make good power with cams in the 218-230 deg range. Definitely more than any stock head

Alright, well thats something, still hoping to have someone with experience with that head chime in, otherwise I might start to think they arent that popular lol, althought I don't imagine they are completely different than their other 190 cfm SBS heads..

They arent because there is no reason to stick with a vortec style intake pattern when buying aftermarket heads. Why not get the 195 head which is better all around and more intake choices?

Thats a fair assessment, I'm just interested in the heads, I'm not too concerned about replacing the RPM air gap that I already have at this point, and if i swapped to the normal style heads i would just add another $3-500 bucks to the swap for no reason.

So for comparison purposes the 195's are the closest comparison and substantially similar tot he 190 vortec AFR's you think? I'll see if I can find some comparison's on that I suppose.

From what i see the vortec 190's seem to be step above the 180's and just below the 195's. Power wise they would be just slightly behind the 195's in capability but either will be much better than what you got

Alright, I'm going to save some extra pennies, I'll see if there is a friendly engine dyno close to me here in Guelph that can give me a before and after run so we can post the combo. It would be a good excuse for me to get a dyno done, that would be a first!

Re: Are AFR Vortec 190's worth the upgrade?

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/148...tec-head-test/

Iron oem vortecs 391 hp 431 trq
Edelbrock e tec 170's 408 hp 437 trq

Etecs dont flow as good as an afr 190 head. So probably another 10 hp easily in there

Another test
http://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-...-shootout/amp/

Stock vortecs 378 hp 408 trq
Patriot 185 cc vortec heads. 420 hp 417 trq

Potential for good gains is there
