Starter options
Want to replace my factory starter with a high-torque one. Summit Racing has some in the oem style or the mini footprint Style. Which would you recommend?

Mini.
All of those have gear reduction; the OEM does not. Just an altogether better way to skin the cat.
There are 2 main styles of mini. 1 looks kinda similar to OEM but isn't; that's a Hitachi. The other has a large square part; that's a Nippondenso. Personally I think the ND is the better but the other isn't bad; both are so far superior to the old WW2 Delco POS it's not even funny.

Re: Starter options
Definitely the mini-starter for me. Clears everything better - easier to work around.
I can't recommend the entry level Power-master units. No matter how I shimmed it I got grinding and then it took a dump. I disassembled it and it was garbage inside. Poorly made and weak components.
I got one of their higher end models and the grinding all but went away and so far it hasn't let me down, but I also had to warranty one of their high end alternators - one day it just stopped working. Put the ACDelco back in and sent it back to summit (3-4 months old) and got a replacement. So far it's been fine but I don't really trust it. Both of them made a high pitched whine.
I don't know what brand actually makes decent ones. I just don't feel it's powermaster after having only 4 of their products and so far it's a 50% failure rate.

Re: Starter options
My Summit Mini starter lasted a few years.. It's not a daily driver... I would spend a bit more for better quality... up for suggestions too...
Thanks,

Re: Starter options
I bought the OEM starter used in the ‘88-up Corvette in my car..they were gear reduction starters.Rockauto sells them new for just under $100. The only thing you’ll have to change is different length bolts for the starter. This ended my starter issues with my L98.
