tachometer differences

Will a V6 tach read the same rpm’s as a V8 tach if put in a V8 equipped car?

No.

The tach "counts" ignition pulses, not crank revolutions. Since a 6-cylinder produces 3 ignition pulses per crank rev while a V8 produces 4, if you hook a V8 to a 6-cyl tach, it will read 4/3 of the correct crank RPM value.
