Start with the simple stuff first. What code is the SES light showing? If it is running lean, then change the fuel filter. Might be running super lean because of a clogged filter. Had something similar happen to me many years ago.

im not sure what code is running.. i just ordered a obd1 reader to see exactly what the code is. I replaced the fuel filter in 2016 after i purchased it, i just put a cheap one in there tho. i cud probably replace it. Could it be the maf sensor?

Oh you don't need a scanner. A paper clip or scrap of wire bent into a U and inserted into A and B of the ALDL, turn the key to run, count the flashes of the check engine light. Codes are two digits. It'll start by flashing code 12 two or three times to let you know it's in diagnostic mode, so one flash, pause, two flashes, pause, one flash, pause two flashes.... After code 12 it'll flash any other stored codes. Each code will flash 2 or 3 times, then it'll move on to the next code, when all the codes are finished, it'll flash 12 again 2 or 3 times before repeating the process. When you're done, turn the ignition off, remove the clip, and fix the problem. When the problem is fixed, disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to a minute, reconnect and test drive the car. That will reset the codes, so you can drive the car a bit and check the codes again to see if they come back again.
