Hydraulic lifter question?

I have a question regarding lifters. I'm about to swap in a 3.4 for my old worn out 3.1. Everything looks good but I noticed when I turn the engine over by hand some lifters don't come up all the way. Is this normal since I drained the oil? Just wanna make sure before I put it in. I'm gonna be replacing the manifold gaskets so how do I set the rockers if they don't go all the way up?

Re: Hydraulic lifter question?

lifters pump up with engine oil pressure, turning by hand aint gonna do it. You have to treat it as though youve just changed the cam out. Plenty of youtube vids out there on how to set valve lash on hydraulic lifters.

If anything, err on the side of caution and tighten them too loose, if they are too tight then you will hold the valves open and probably lose compression. If they tick when running, tighten them up incrementally then go 1/4 to 1/2 turn past that.

Well I'm pretty sure they are set right. I'm just gonna go ahead and cut the gaskets and slip em behind the pushrods as many people have done in the past. Thanks for the info.
