Manual or automatic?

I have done a few searches on this question, but... is there a way via the vin or rpo codes to determine if my 86 was originally a manual or automatic tranny? It's an ifp87 via the vin, and Lg4 on the rpo list, but I see no listing for the original axle or transmission set up.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Manual or automatic?

If I'm not mistaken,
MM5 signifies manual parts like console, pedals etc. etc.
M39 is the actual manual transmission
GU5 is 3.23 gear IF you have a manual. -I think.
G80 would mean posi, but I don't see it listed.

Not 100% sure about how the different gears translate to different RPOs across the different years and options etc. etc, but I'm 99% sure about the MM5, so to answer the original question, it appears your car had a manual.
