Died at light. No crank or click. Only thing that works is lights.

Hey all,

I have a 87 Camaro LT 305 4 BBL 5 speed.

Today, I was having a nice cruise when all of a sudden the car died at the light.

When I tried to start it I got no crank, click, or even power in the dash.

I knew right away I must of blown a fusible link which I replaced immediately (was fried) but having the same issue. I used my volt meter to check if I have power at the starter and there indeed is.

I am not exactly sure what to try next. I started tracing the wires from the starter to the next 'hop' but it appears to go in the car somewhere? Orange and red wire.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ben

So , the power stopped , you found a burned fusible link , you replaced it , and now are you sure it didn't go open again ? If it's ok it will have power not only on the big terminal of the starter , it'll have power on the side going to the car as well . The next place to check would be the ignition switch , is there power there ? The thing is , if the fusible link went , you replaced it and it's OK but still no ignition power , that means the short circuit that blew the link also caused something else to go open and the ignition switch or where the wires connect to come to the ignition switch (like the C100 connector) would be prime suspects . Finding and fixing the short circuit that blew the link and whatever else along with it should be your top priority because fixing the fusible link and whatever else has gone open without fixing the short will of course result in more burnt parts .
