OTC 2000 scanner troubleshooting

I’m trying to dial in my e4me carb and I decided to purchase an otc scanner from eBay. It came with a storage case, manuals, cartridges and the seller stated it was tested.

That being said, I’m having trouble getting this thing to work and I don’t know if it’s user error or something wrong with the scanner.

I can select my vehicle year, but after I select the vehicle engine vin I get a “FULL” message on the scanner. If I press any other buttons it just cuts off. Does anyone have experience with these scanners? I don’t want to purchase another if it’s something I’m doing wrong…

Weird. I have one of these and I’ve never seen that. It’s not even in the manual anywhere.

Re: OTC 2000 scanner troubleshooting

It’s functioning intermittently now but I can’t figure out if it’s a voltage issue or if the data link isn’t stable. Im wondering if it’s a connection issue at the ALDL. I’m supposed to be able to read the codes with the key on engine off, right?

Re: OTC 2000 scanner troubleshooting

Do you have, or know someone else with an OBD 1 car that you can try the tool on? At least then you'd know if it's a problem with the vehicle or the OTC unit.

Wow! I have an old OTC2000, I bought from a mechanic I supervised, when I was in the Auto Repair Business! Do not see those OTC2000 anymore.
