388 stroker

Hi everyone I’m new here. I just bought a 388 stroker off my buddy. He bought an eagle balanced rotating assembly for it and vortec heads ported and polished for it. He wanted 450-500 hp. The kit has flat top pistons, sir 5.7” I beam rods, scat cast crank, comp cam 110 lsa, 490 lift, adv dur intake 274 exhaust 286 duration @ 50 is intake 230 exhaust 236. In wanting to make it around 550-600 hp. And thought about aluminum heads what would I have to change to get 550-600 hp

You might be at 420 horsepower.
You really got to step on it to make 500 hp .Even more to make 600 HP from a 388 cid sbc .
Supercharging is a great path to that for a street machine.

That is where I would expect a 350 to be with that cam. 383 will make a bit more, I feel he is in the 440-450 range with a decent intake, decent headers and tuning.

I agree though, he is going to need some good heads like the ones that Lloyd Elliot ported for my 383, Brodix Dragon Slayers, Competition ported AFRs, a big solid roller cam and a load of RPM to make 550+.

He could also take that same engine, put an Edelbrock EForce on it and be there.

I was thinking brodix heads would I need to change cam size or change rod length I want to get as much horse as I can N/A

Re: 388 stroker

Sell it and build a 400” motor. You’ll need to replace the bottom end anyway if you want 550-600 na imo

summit racing is selling 525 hp 383 online. Guess I could look at the parts they have on theirs

Re: 388 stroker

Yeah its got a big cam and 210 heads. Not bad. But forged crank rods and pistons. You could try making the power on a cast crank but i wouldnt want to for the rpm you will be turning

550 on a 383 is a very stout sbc. Dont let anyone fool you. Not exactly easy and a lot of that power could be had in the bottom end with proper thin ring pack piston and clearances

if it was me i would run something like a 210 afr or profiler head or one of chad speiers small bore 205cc deals. Maybe even a 215-220’s type head with a smaller valve, 2.080 is about as big as you ever want to go. Single plane intake to support it and let it spin up
