Re: Sad in Santa fe

Smog pump is only for cold engine emissions. Once a vehicle is warmed up to operating temp, the smog pump does nothing. Take it off and install a shorter belt.

Your lucky to get an answer because this forum is dedicated to third gen f-bodies.

Re: Sad in Santa fe

This site is focused upon Third-Generation GM F-Body vehicles and their support. Despite the fact that Daimler-Chrysler was buying everything from QuadraJets and Saginaw steering gears/pumps to TH transmissions and Harrison air conditioners from GM at that time, I doubt that many people here would have the details for properly removing and bypassing the air injection system on a 360. I suspect it will involve plugging some holes, pulling some bolts and belts, some ECM reprogramming, and other nuanced steps that we just wouldn't be aware of as it applies to the D-C systems before they turned into a foreign car company. If the AIR pump happens to be a Rochester part, which wouldn't be a shock for that era of D-C platforms, there might be a chance that someone here would have a working unit available in the Classified board on this site: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/parts-sale/

They dissasemble very easily and very little internally to fail. Might be worth finding out what you have and rebuilding it yourself. Probably only needs a bearing or two replaced, the housing cleaned and vanes cleaned an lubricated. 15-20 years ago it was common to rebuild them to turn them into effective crankcase vacuum pumps.

Sorry; I've never worked on that vehicle and am totally unfamiliar with anything Dodge built back then. Your best bet for relevant information will likely be from a forum that covers Chrysler products.
