Its at my engine builders now, but its a cast iron, EGR, Q-jet style with a coolant crossover passage in the back by the distributor. It has the different angle center 4 bolts to the heads like the 87up TBI heads have.

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

Probably a 87-up carb intake then. The last few such engines in cars were in things like MC SS. Although, I think I recall those intakes being aluminum. In the US anyway; not sure what went on in exports, or stuff like boats, or over-the-counter motors.

As a Monte Carlo SS owner with a 350 TPI swap, I can tell you that the 87-up stock intakes were aluminum. I got an 86 and 87 intake sitting in my parts bin.

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

I did a Google search on that part number and found a post on a G-Body forum talking about a motor that was pulled from a 1987 Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) that had this intake on it. That would make sense since GM probably wanted the additional durability of the cast iron over the aluminum for police car duty.

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

I would say maybe a truck intake but the trucks had TBI in 87 with the introduction to the centerbolt heads. Dont think they had a carbed engine in 87. Bet Fast355 could tell you what it comes from.

Correct the trucks were TBI in '87, but the F-bodies, G-Bodies and Caprices had carbed SBC engines 1987. F-bodies and G-bodies used aluminum 4bbl intakes, but it seems that at least the Police Package Caprices may have had a cast iron 4bbl intake. The standard Caprices may have been aluminum intakes, but not sure.

Last year of the 1/2 ton C/K series square body trucks was 1987 and it was the first year of the RPO L03 5.0L TBI engine in the trucks.

I wonder if TBI was a 1/2 ton only thing? All our fleet trucks were 3/4 ton and 1 ton.

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

I think it was a 1/2 ton only thing. I didn't know you also could get the L05 5.7L TBI too. Mine was a short bed C10 with L03.

The 1/2 ton went to GMT400 in 1988 while I think they still kept making the 3/4 and 1 ton in Square Body style until 1991. I think R/V was the 1988 to 1991 naming instead of C/K.

The last of the square bodies were in 1992 and carbureted till the end in Mexico. They used an intake as described in this post. As did the G30 and P30 HD 350s. The carbureted engines lived long enough to run non-swirl port centerbolt valve cover heads both 305 and 350. 9C1 Caprice had 083 heads and a Q-Jet through 1988 as well.

M Vin 350 was carbureted and catless true dual with OE stainless tubular manifolds resembling shorty headers even in 1987 and 1988 when equipped.

In our endouro class we have to use a cast iron intake with a carburetor and with my tbi heads this would be a perfect fit

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

OK I was thinking that might be why.

Does it just have to be a factory GM cast iron intake manifold? Are any factory GM cast iron intake manifold disallowed in your class?

Reason I ask is because there is a guy on here with the best factory GM cast iron manifold ever made.

Re: SBC Intake 14101076 Question

This Bow Tie part is the best stock cast iron (casting #14096242) 4 barrel manifold available. You can get it in 1955 to 1986 bolt pattern or 1987 to 1995 bolt pattern. IDK which one @Tom 400 CFI has.

This is also known as the "marine" intake. It went on boats engines after doing its duty as a Bow Tie intake. If you can get away with running it it will rock and roll.

Well I tried to get that boat anchor cast iron intake sold for you. LoL

He doesn't want to risk running afoul of the tech inspector. Can't blame him.

Luck? Don't your racing org have rules? Can you look at 'em? Not sure what "luck " has to do w/anything, here. This intake has the '87 up bolt pattern....it's ready to help you win some races!....while ensuring that your front tires are firmly planted on the road.
