Oil pressure sensor

All,
I have been dealing with a problem with the oil pressure in my gauge lately. It is a third gen 90 IROC Z convertible with the tune port 305. I have measured oil pressure with a mechanical gauge and have a steady 35 psi. The old gauge would start out at 30 psi, then go to right above the RED at at 10 psi on the gauge. I cleaned the sensor with contact cleaner, now it goes all the way to the right about 60 psi and don't change. I have used two different new PS-207s that Auto Zone sells and they show nothing. I did various searches and Rock Auto stated the cross reference is PS-228 also known also know as part number 1P1053. when that one is used the gauge goes all the way the right above 60 psi. anyone know the right part number? Hawks thirg generation parts has a GM 19244498 listed which cross references to the PS-228.
I know with as old as this car is, someone has had this issue in the past.

Re: Oil pressure sensor

If many senders all say the same thing, perhaps it's not a fault with the senders. Time to start checking the connector and wiring.

An oil pressure gauge that pegs itself at 60 instantly as soon as 12v is applied means that the circuit is open (aka not grounded). So you have a wire break somewhere and the gauge is not seeing ground.

Also, why does it seem like I see this question every 3 months on this board. There are numerous threads pointing to all of this information including wiring diagrams, as well as trouble shooting procedures. And I mean, its the EXACT same question.

Because the forum search function pulls up mostly irrelevant information on what ever you are searching for.

Read more. I did a search for "Oil Pressure Gauge 60psi" and had 3 solid results in the first page, one of which had my own posts in it with plenty of other threads which would help provide background information.

The search works, and actually significantly better than other modern Forum software does.
