Lifter Valley Question

Hi all, I've got a quick question about the lifter valley on an LB9 engine. I snapped the stud that is used to secure the thermostat housing, and have since pulled the intake manifold. I have to scrape the old gaskets off and little bits are falling into the valley. I'm gonna try my best to clean out what I can, but I was wondering where the valley oil drains to. I heard it drains to the oil pan, but I wanted to make sure.

That is correct. EVERYTHING drains back to the pan. THIMK: where else could the oil POSSIBLY go to, and still be available to be recycled through the engine by the oil pump?

Use a vacuum cleaner to pick up as much of the debris as you can. Next time you do this, tape some newspaper or plastic sheeting or something, over the valley, to keep that from happening. Stuff something into the intake, exhaust, and coolant ports, some rags or paper towels or something, for the same reason.

Re: Lifter Valley Question

Sounds good. I think I did pretty good keeping the ports clean but it was tough keeping the whole valley clean with a plastic bag.

Well as we all know, you can't post anything on the Internet that's not true, right??

Wherever you saw that, needs to be un-seen.
