Fuel pump issues.

Wondering if anybody could provide any advice? I recently bought a 1989 Camaro RS with a 305 TBI. The previous owner said the engine was flooding real bad, dumping so much fuel into the motor that the car couldn't idle, after I bought the car I began working on it, fixed the flooding issue, took it for a test drive. The car was running fine, except for every once in a while it would began sputtering out and cut off, but it would crank back up just fine. Figured I'd take a look at it later, went to crank the car back up and just couldn't, there isn't any fuel getting to the motor and I cant hear the fuel pump turn on, got under the car and discovered the previous owner had put in a brand new tank and fuel sending unit, I didn't look for myself but I would assume he probably replaced the fuel pump whenever he did this. Checked the wiring and everything seems to be solid and hooked up fine, but I'm only seeing 7.9 volts back there, I'm no expert, especially with wiring and electronics, but I assume you'd want to see 12 volts back there right? I also checked the relays and all are functioning just fine. Thats all for now, If you have any info or thoughts on what it could be, please let me know. I'll be taking another look at the car tomorrow and see if I can get things figured out.

Re: Fuel pump issues.

Yes, the pump should have full battery voltage. If you are reading 7.9VDC there are a couple possibilities. First is that you are measuring the wires for the fuel level sender. Second, a resistive contact or connection in the pump power circuit is dropping voltage.

Re: Fuel pump issues.

Thanks for responding, I have already solved the issue with the car. Turns out it was an issue with one of the relays, apparently during my initial inspection of them I didn't notice the issue. But thanks again for trying to help.
