Scan Tool for OBD1

I have researched and researched, these are impossible to find! I have a 1989 IROC-Z with 5/7/Auto that is running very rough, dying frequently. I have been able to verify that the fuel pressure is maintaining at 42 #, but not much else really. I would love to find a scan tool that will work with OBD 1, I can't even find a shop around here that has one.

I have looked on eBay, Marketplace, etc.

Do any of you have any ideas or have one for sale?

Thanks, Rick

The snapon mt2500 (the brick) was indispensable as a tech years ago for OBD1 vehicles. Most will have a troubleshooter cartridge with them that will even give you tips on how to fix dtcs.

Yeah, phyiscal scanners for OBD1 are getting much harder to find. Tunerpro is a good option though... free download. All you need is a laptop and an ALDL to USB cable.

Paperclip method reads codes (if there are any)... but you can't get running data. Often times the running data provides big clues (every problem won't throw a code).

I bought the OTC Diagnostic Tool 4000E (Pathfinder) off of Facebook marketplace that can do OBD I & II. Average price is around $100 depending on what cartridges come with it.

Re: Scan Tool for OBD1

I got one of these and it works with winaldl no problem, way better than a scan tool.
