Smog Pump Question

I live in FL and don't have to worry about emmisions. Yesterday, while screwing around under the hood, i noticed the previous owner took the belt off of the smog pump. I was wondering if this effects your engine in any way. Should i put it back on there or is it just for emmisions purposes only. If so, I'm just gonna take the whole thing off to save some weight. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Just rip it off.....in addition to weight saving you will clean up the engine bay too. If you do pull all of the smog equipment off you will need to eighter plug the tube to the cat or get a cat without an air tube and plug the air fittings in the manifolds.

I'd love to tear everything off, what exactly does that entail. Does this mean the canister, smog pump and all the lines? Does anything else have to be done other than plugging the manifold and cat? If anyone can give me some details on this, it be greatly apreciated.
