radiator fan switch question
Anyone know of alternate radiator fan switches?
Have a 91 L98, I am eventually going to burn a PROM that will lower the turn on/off points for Fan 1, but Fan 2 is controlled by the temp sensor in the intake. I guess it's like 235F or so before it comes on. Basically I'd like to stick with the 195 stat, and find a fan switch that is 220 on, 205 off (roughly). I don't care to see my temp gauge past 220...
have heard that the buick GN's had lower temp fan switches that are compatible, but don't know anything specific... anyone?
thanks!

Just bought a Fan Switch yesterday from a local Automotive parts store.

My application is somewhat different than yours. I have an 87 Camaro with a single Fan. The Switch mounts in the Head between #6 and #8 cylinders (Pass. Side). The engine is a Carbed 383 (non-cc) and I'm running a 180 Stat.
Not sure if will work in your set-up or not.
Maybe someone else can advise you on that.

I found an even better swich a few weeks back at Advanced Auto. It's an adjustable swich/relay and dirt cheap $18. I dont have the part number but it seems like a very good alternative and its adjustable.
SSC
Edit: I forgot to mention that all the install parts including a sensor are included in that $18

So, I went and got the GN switch and put it in...first let me say, what a messy job!
Anyways.....with the GN switch, the fan comes on and stays on...it doesn't cycle.
It comes on with my gauge at 220, gauge drops back down to the point where it runs at on the highway (anotherwords, the coolest it will run after warmed up, or the thermostat temp) but fan stays on. bummer.
I'm still runing the 195 stat and I really don't want to switch to anything less.
Am thinking I may put a stock fan switch back in, then tinker with the ECM to get the other fan to come on around 220 and back off at 210. Apparently the GN switch comes on at 220 (accourding to my temp gauge) but must go off below 195.
just thought i'd let everyone know in case it's any help. I guess the GN's must have come with a 180 stat and this fan switch would probably work great at that.

Don't forget that the coolant temperatures at the heads (where the fan switch and gauge senders are) are hotter than the temp at the thermostat (where the ECM receives it's coolant temp info from).
Is your relay okay, too? Yeah, it was pretty messy, huh?

Last year I put in the Jet switch and the 180 stat, I highly suggest the same. then just forget about it, works great.
Yea it's a mess, so as long as you're under there I'd try to combine jobs and change the plugs while I'm there too. done !
