Lock cylinder and VATS related questions..

what makes the GTA lock cylinder different the the regular lock cylinder??? Is it because of VATS?? either way i went to autozone to pick up a lock cylinder and key. They gave me it, but it was missing something... (SEE PIC BELOW) So where DO i get a VATS lock cylinder? I would of thought the GTA that they gave me was with VATS because it cost me $60.. Oh well, gonna try the dealer tomorrow.

OH any my last question, is where is the VATS stuff located? like the resistor info and stuff. is each lock cylinder different?? or do i have to tell them the resistance of my current key?

That is the right lock cylinder. the cylinder does not achually carry any of the VATS, just has the two wires that run through it to make a connection with the resistor in the key. You need to take that key with your existing key to the dealer and they will have a black box that will tell them which resistor to use. They will make a key with the new pattern and the resistor that was already used on the car. Its hard as a beotch to snake that wire back down the coulmn so when you pull the old wire up, have a string attached to it so you can snake the new one down there.

You have to get them to make you a new key with the "thingy"(resistor)that follows that patern, but the clyinder is the right one.

BTW- the new key will cost like $20.
