how can u tell if a coil is bad??? is there any way to fix it??? my cars not firing... i've replaced plugs, wire, cap, and rotor.... any help would be greatly appreciated

 

You can check the secondary resitance and primary resitance..if in spec, it should at least fire...Primary resistance should be minimal (I don't know the spec, would have to look it up...something like 1 or 2 ohms), the secondary resistance should be high..in the 6-10K range (just a guess, refer to a spec).

That said, do you have 12 volts on the coil when the key is on?

 

i haven't checked yet... ran out of daylight... i'm just now getting time to work on my car... but thanks for the info... i'll check asap...

 

seldomly coils go bad, i've had ones 30 years old that work fine, check to make sure all the wires are hooked up and everything looks ok

 

it seems to look okay... any other suggestions on why my car isn't firing??? it was running and i played w/ the carb and it started running rough and has run since.. i can't figure it out... could it have jumped time?????
