Quest for the holy 12 sec 305.
Ok to start this a list of everything I've done, just need to see if you guys have anything I've forgoten.
Car ran a 14.6 @93mph last year with parts in sig. I have a fully machined 383 sitting in garage, than I was told I could make a 305 run 12's. So the rest of the 383 build is on hold till next winter. I went out and bought some new toys for a fast 305. Used 3.73 disk rearend, Vigilate 2800 stall (remeber I get a free stall change), NOS EFI kit p/n 741-0515 from jegs, MSD 6al and baster coil, TES shorty headers and Y-pipe, stock heads proformance valve job(any good places Vader?), 1.6 roller rockers, and that does it for all the good fast parts anyother recomendations? And now for the put the power to the pavement parts, Hotchkis LCA's and panhard, spohn sub frames, TQ arm, and LCA relocation brakets, lakewood drag shocks 50/50 and struts 70/30, poly swaybar links and bushings, skinys in the fronts and ET streets out back, anything else you can think of that help off the line?
It's a lot of work and money for a 305, but all the parts besides the head work will go right on the 383 next year.the only parts I have to order are the Spohn TQ arm, subframes, relocation brakets, and the head work everything else is in the car or in the garage by the car.

New,
Sorry, I didn't see the post earlier or I would have been on it sooner. How've you been? No Byron this weekend for sure...but it's looking a little better for them.
I can't recall and didn't see it in your mods list, but have you ported the intale plenum and runners? That cam is going to like a little more air flow. A ported plenum would be a nice compliment to the headers, and would almost be a necessity on a 383, so no efforts would be wasted. Since the heads are going to be off anyway, the intake base will be off as well. It would be a good time to match all the ports and open them a bit for a complete upper end improvement.
I've had pretty good luck at Tietz-Lynde, but they can be a little slow. Give them enough time and they can do some good bowl work on your stock heads. As for the head runners and ports, you may be on your own, unless you know someone with some templates and some machining time.
You are going to need some RPM components with that rear end and converter stall rating. Get rid of your valve rotators, stock springs, and retainers. I know a guy who may also have some 1.94/1.50 Manley valves to get rid of, and they could work well with your 305 if you don't mind a little unshrouding work and slightly larger chambers. You should plan on losing a little low end torque with the larger intake and exhust ports, but your rear gears and converter aren't going to let you stay at low RPMs for more than a couple feet. (I'm guessing you'll be launching at 3,000 RPM or so...)
If you remove the heads or have spares, I think I might have a few options for you.

NOS? That's cheatin'!
Well, you are sticking with TPI. Guess you've got to have some make-up allowance.
I've got a set of 416 heads sitting around. If you want to be able to drive while the heads are being worked, you can have them for shipping (~$70 last estimate). They're '86-older, but everybody knows what to do about that. They'll need guides I'm sure (at least knurled), but with Vader's valves...
I'll be watching for your results. Would you consider some non-spray runs for comparison purposes?

If you can keep a car from blowing up on NOS then your doing everything else right. As of now figuring I keep the same 60's with the 150 shot nosal the car should run 12.5 @ ~102mph. That time is with NOS only not taking any of the other mods like headers, 1.6 RR, gears, and stall into the equation.
Yes the car will be ran both N/A and on the Bottle. I will post both number as soon as I get them. Byron dragway opens April 6th, I should be ready for the next weekend April 13-14th.
Vader, the heads are coming off the car as soon as I get the rearend back together. I have a month and a half to have everything done before Byron opens. I did all the porting of the runners, intake and plenum last year with the cam swap. So let me know what he wants for the valves.
there's a guy running 202/160 valves on a stock 305 block without the notching and chamfering. the heads are aluminum edelbrocks. he hasn't had any problems with them. his name is njspeeder and he's on the tbi board. maybe you should ask him about his heads on a 305 and see what he says. good luck with the 12's. hope you run faster with that 305, although it is tpi
