Pontiac Grand AM Quad 4 question
Sorry guys, non-thirdgen, but, this is the best resource I know of, so, Thought I might attempt to pick brains on this one....
The Car. 1988 Pontiac Grand Am with 2.3 liter quad 4 motor. Auto trans, air conditioned.
The problem. This car behaves quite strangely. It will start, and run fine. Park it for a while, and no start. Cranks but, won't fire. Sets code 26. quad driver failure. Sometimes it will start, and run ok, but, immediately sets the code. this is with the car in park, and just sitting there..... No other codes set.
I have done some research on this, but, there are so many devices that are controlled by the quad driver, and I do not have service manual for the car. (that would be too nice.....)
If anyone has seen this before, or know where I can find an online manual, so some othre resource, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks Folks.

You will really need a manual to figure this one out because the quad driver controls many functions and usually are model specific. Most generally torque converter lockup, electric fans, and a few others I can't remember for some reason. It sounds like you need a new ECM to me, but it could be a malfunction in one of the circiuts controlled by the quad driver. Check your connections and pins on the ECM, check relays, fuses, and wiring. If you can tap on the ECM while it is running fine and make it die your computer is toast. Hope this helps!

Thanks James
That is about the answer that I expected....... Damn. The problem is, this car is in kinda tough shape, and not going to be around much longer, got whacked in the side, so just needs to last another month or so before it is replaced. Guess the schedule just got moved up.......
Will try the tap test, and see what happens. Already played with the easy stuff. I don't know anyone that has a manual, but, perhaps the dealer will be nice to me, and let me photocopy the wiring diagrams.....
Thanks for the thought. Greatly appreciated.
