Any SBCs have lower-temp fan sw?

I don't want to drop $40 for Hypertech's 200-on / 185-off fan switch. I would imagine that GM put a lower-temp (3rdgens have 220something-on/200-off, right?) fan switch in some of their cars, right? 'Cause if they did, that would work fine for us and could be gotten for more like $20 at any parts shop. So what (if any) model/year should I give at the parts shop to get a lower-temp switch? Thx.

Joel,

AutoMeter makes a switch that goes on at 195°F and off at 187°F, part number 3246. They're about $21.00.

Joel, excuse the encrochment to your post, but it may help both of us, as well as others.

I recently put in a 180* Stat and a GN 220/204 CTS (Car Qwest TS-136 $30.00) and I'm happier than a PigNslop.

The standard 238* gave me nightmares in spite of also having a toggle switch.

I don't worry anymore. I must say that I haven't gone through the summer weather yet, but I should still be a lot better off.

Vader mentioned the 195/187 switch, that got me thinking (and showing my ignorance as well). I don't want to run at 100* and I'll never run at 260*, I'm sure there is a point in between that is the best for my engine.

My question is: Which one is best for the engine?

I realize that Joel lives in MO amd I live in MI and that my Sig is quite different than his and therefore there may be two different answers?????.

This is just another option, not an answer to all the questions:

GM uses p/n 3053190 in their HO 350 Camaro Conversion kit. I picked one up from a local Pontiac dealer. It was about $30, IIRC (I may be trying to forget). It's called "95C", which translates to 203 degrees F.

Thanks for the info & options, guys. (Hopefully, this thread will help others out in finding cheaper switches in the future)

You could also go this route Imperial adjustable thermostat Pt#226203. Allows adjustablility from 160*-250* $18 from Advanced Auto/Checker/Probably a real Autozone would have it also. Theres a tech artical about using a similar system as primary relay and factory relay as a backup. Im using it as a primary with no problems so far.
