head bolt torque question

Hey guys,
I put my heads back on a few days ago with Permatex Thread Sealant w/ Teflon (14) to seal them after reading several posts about how to seal them. Now, I torqued them down in the proper sequence first at 50, then 55, then 60 ft-lbs. The sealant says they may be tightened up to 24 hours after installing without breaking the seal. Well I just read they should be at 65 ft-lbs.

Do I need to take them all out, re-seal and retorque them, Or do you think it'll be fine with only 5 ft-lbs less than spec???

Thanks,
John

if your using an aluminum head.. your going to be close

Some of the AL heads are 70ft/lbs.. But, i would not try to go the extra 5. The sealer will set a little and you will mess that up.

There is more danger of failure from over-torquing than from slightly under-torquing them. I usually only use 60 ft-lbs anyway because the castings start to distort above that, which ends up creating leaks between the center 2 cylinders. And, that particular thread sealer makes a really good lubricant (thereby lowering torque readings at any given clamping force), so you should probably leave the torque a bit on the low side anyway.

My advice would be to leave them alone.
