There is one carb Vortec manifold with EGR mount provision. You have to plumb exhaust up to the intake via an external tube. Same for aluminum L98 heads (that's what they did on Vette TPI's). The SD base includes the external EGR tube boss.
Think about what you're saying about Vortec vs. Worlds.
With Vortecs:
- Special intake manifold/base required
- Above-mentioned external EGR tube required
- Press-in rocker studs
- Really, really poor valve springs
- Factory production-quality castings
- Milling required for use on a 305
With Worlds:
- "Regular" intake manifolds fit
- Cross-over passages so internal manifold EGR works
- Screw-in rocker studs
- Good valve springs standard, upgrade springs cheap
- Aftermarket performance-quality castings
- Version available for 305
You didn't say which World heads you were using for comparison, I'll assume S/R Torquer 305's. World admits their heads benefit from bowl work, but even a first-timer like me didn't have any trouble doing that. The money you won't spend on a special intake manifold, machining for screw-in studs, and decent valve springs will more than pay for the Worlds. With a little die-grinder work, they will out-flow Vortecs.

ok thanks
Hey thanks for the breakdown 57kid.... Yea i was thinkin about the sr 305 heads... I will prolly just get those since they have better springs to begin with... sr heads with a bowl port job, perfomer intake, comp cams 256 cam with slp 1/5/8 headers, i already have a flowmaster cat back, its gonna put on a l69 engine
Thanks again Kevin
Thanks again Kevin
Just a note, I got my vortec heads new, machined for screw in studs and guide plates, new valves & valve job, and springs good to .550 lift for $500. So its not that big of an added cost, you just need to shop around.
