Roller cam or hydralic cam

hey guys,

im new here........i just got my camaro.......and im looking to get my 305 souped up a lil........im thinking about making it a stroker...but my question is that is our O.E.M cam is roller or hydraulic

I see this confused quite a bit. You dont compare them roller & hydraulic, you mean flat-tappet(non roller) or roller

Flat tappet cams came up to the end of '86 as a general rule of thumb.

Roller cams started in '87

There are solid & hydraulic flat-tappet cams.......as there are solid & hydraulic roller cams.

You have a factory hydraulic roller cam in your '89 RS.

But remember that the Truck blocks weren't roller. So dont buy a post 87 truck/van block and think its a roller.
