VERY annoying noise...
OK, first of all, this is my first post so hopefully it'll work out for the best. I just put in a newly rebuilt 355 TPI in my 86 Z28, and I think I did something really stupid. I was adjusting the distributor and didn't get the clamp on well enough and tried to start the car, well, it popped the dist. up and from then on, there is a rattling noise that sounds like it's coming from the oil pan. Any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanx.
JG,
Welcome Aboard!
Did you remove the oil pump drive shaft and inspect it when you reinstalled the distributor? You may have done some damage to the end of the shaft when the distributor popped up, or may have damaged the distributor gear. I'd remove the distributor again and check more closely.

I have taken it out once when I put the Hi-Flow Edelbrock intake on. And I didn't find anything, but while we're here, what is a good replacement dist. Not neccessarily the most expensive, but the best "bang for the buck"
